![]() | Background: Craig Reville is a web designer based in Europe. He has started up several successful sites such as Zoob, MySecretWebs, and Craigreville.com. Known by his fans as Placehold, he has also independantly started several services such as TechWebSupport and Fooked. | What is your current job/occupation?Freelance designer, System analyst and Helpdesk advisor. How long have you been working with the internet?I've been actively working with the internet for 8 years now, the first 2 years i spent researching into the internet and its possibilities. At the time it appeared to be limited with fantastic future opportunities. What made you want to get into web design?I would say that not one particular thing made me or pushed me into web design, it was a number of contributing factors. At the time i had established how to create a basic website (Using php), i didn't really find it helpful so concentrated on technical support. After finishing up with an art course and Helpdesk training through college i decided to explore the option and gradually over a number of years ended up designing graphics and then websites. How did you learn about the basics of html and css formatting? After learning php it was obvious that my basic yet functional site was no where as good as others, through asking, reading a lot of books and looking at raw code i slowly came to grips with what it all meant. What do you like to include in your websites? There's not one thing specifically that i like to include however i love designing simplistic pages and usually love the one piece of graphic that brings it to life. Adding that one piece makes me happy. Do you have any stresses when designing websites?Anything can become stressful if not managed well but for the majority of the time its a pleasure and usually stress free. How big are graphics in any website?Graphics are in my opinion are not essential, graphics management is. If a website requires something to centre focus, highlight essential/key information or to provide a smoother user interface then add it. If the website does not need graphics then it really shouldn't be added. Its all down to how you read the website from a users point of view and the designer should understand this while making the site. What do all of your websites you have in common?Apart from being simplistic i have this weird style of coding. I use notepad that comes with any pc and when coding the HTML and CSS i separate everything into blocks and tab each section according to its position, this helps me see what I'm doing. Are you working on any web design projects or have you worked on anyin the past? At the moment i am working on two large projects involving two other designers and have worked on several larger corporate projects, which involved re-designing business systems. The majority of my designs are for personal, small business or blog sites. How do you see the future of websites? How will they expand to housemore features online? To be honest, i feel that we have come as far as we have with HTML, CSS, Javascript and similar languages and that maybe the future is in interaction from one page. When the user logs on, depending on what they select on that page, the content will be brought to them but its a relatively old concept which needs further explored. This just happen to be one of my suggestions that I gave Jalokim for when I was applying.
